DISPLAY & RETARGETING

Most of your visitors leave without buying. I bring them back.

Display and retargeting put you back in front of the people who already showed interest — and keep you top-of-mind with the ones who will. Done right, it’s the most efficient money in your account. Done wrong, it quietly drains budget on people who were never coming back. I do it right.

What it is

Two plays, one goal: stay in front of the right people.

Display —

Image and video ads across Google’s network of millions of sites, apps, YouTube, Gmail and Discover. It’s how you stay visible and top-of-mind across the web, not just when someone is actively searching.

Retargeting (remarketing) —

Ads aimed specifically at people who already visited your site or engaged but didn’t convert. That’s warm traffic you’ve already paid to earn. Retargeting is about not letting it quietly slip away to a competitor.

One honest note up front: in 2026 Google is consolidating standalone Display campaigns into Demand Gen, so a lot of this now runs through Demand Gen and Performance Max alongside dedicated remarketing. The strategy hasn’t changed — but how it’s set up matters more than ever.

How retargeting actually runs in 2026

Display

Dedicated retargeting with tight control over creative, frequency, and who you exclude.

Demand Gen

Re-engaging warm audiences across YouTube, Discover, and Gmail — where standalone Display is now consolidating.

RLSA (Search)

Bidding differently for people who already know you when they search again — remarketing lists for Search ads.

YouTube

Video follow-up to people who’ve already visited or watched.

Performance Max

Your audience data fed in as a signal — less precise than dedicated retargeting, but part of the picture.

When it wins

How I run it differently

Tight audience segments

Not one “everyone who visited” list getting the same generic ad.

Frequency caps

So you’re present, not annoying — the line between top-of-mind and stalker.

The right campaign type for the goal

Run through current formats — not a soon-to-be- retired standalone Display setup.

Honest measurement —

Real incremental results, not inflated last-click numbers that make retargeting look better than it actually is.

Creative with a reason to return

Not just your logo following people around the internet.

Heads up: the Display → Demand Gen shift

HAPPENING NOW

Google is moving standalone Display campaigns into Demand Gen.

The migration tool is rolling out through 2026, and remaining eligible campaigns are set to migrate automatically afterward. Display isn’t going away — it becomes a channel inside Demand Gen. If your display or retargeting is still sitting in an old standalone campaign, it should be moved deliberately, not left to auto-migrate onto default settings you didn’t choose.

If that’s you, see Campaign migration and Demand Gen .

How it fits the bigger system

Display & retargeting is the bottom-of-funnel layer — it works best on top of everything else, not on its own. Search and Local Service Ads capture people ready to buy; Demand Gen and YouTube create demand; and retargeting catches everyone who didn’t convert the first time. The full picture is on What I Run

Investment.

Part of done-for-you management

Display & retargeting isn’t sold on its own — it’s one layer of how I manage your account as a single system. Done-for-you management starts at $1,500/mo plus ad spend; we’ll scope the right channel mix for your business on a call. Prefer to keep running it yourself? Coaching and audits are available too.

QUESTIONS

Does retargeting still work in 2026 — didn’t Google get rid of Display?

Retargeting is alive and one of the most efficient plays in Google Ads. What’s changing is the standalone Display campaign type, which is being folded into Demand Gen. The inventory and the strategy remain — retargeting now runs across Display, Demand Gen, RLSA, YouTube, and Performance Max.

Not when it’s done right. Frequency caps and tight audience segments mean you stay helpfully top-of-mind instead of following someone around the internet with the same ad fifty times.

Yes. For service businesses it’s standard retargeting plus RLSA and Demand Gen. Dynamic “product” retargeting is built for e-commerce catalogs — you don’t need it, and I won’t sell it to you.

Those are campaign types. Display & retargeting is a strategy that runs across them. The skill is picking the right mix and segmenting audiences tightly — see Demand Gen and Performance Max for how each one works.

By real, incremental impact — not inflated last-click numbers. Retargeting is the easiest channel to make look good on paper and the easiest to waste money on, so honest measurement is the whole game.

Retargeting works best as one layer of the full system, so it’s part of done-for-you management. If you’d rather start smaller, an account audit will tell you whether your current retargeting is helping or leaking.

Stop paying twice to reach the same visitor.

Book a call and we’ll figure out how to win back the traffic you’re already paying for — set up the right way, measured honestly, as part of a system that actually fits together.
