Joe Lowery has been searching the backroads and common places of Texas in search of compelling natural images since the mid 1980s. During that time his work has been displayed, collected, and published by private and corporate collectors, State Fairs, Museums, and Galleries, Chambers of Commerce, local, regional, state, national and international publications, numerous telephone books, magazines, posters, and calendars. Some of which include Sierra Club, Audubon, Barnes & Nobles, and Texas Highways Calendars, Petersons Photographic, Landscapes Magazine and Texas Highways Magazine. His work is represented locally by Coats Gallery of Nacogdoches, Henderson and Massengill of Utopia, Joe Lowery Studio and Gallery in downtown Lufkin, and displayed by the Texas Forestry Museum. Joe is currently serving on the Board of Directors of The Museum of East Texas, Lufkin, Texas.
He was named by Texas Highways as one of their top photographers of the last 25 years and has been recognized by Lady Bird Johnson for his work in wildflower imagery which she used as an inspiration for other states. His Texas images have been selected to uplift Texas troops in Bosnia and appear on over a dozen note cards distributed throughout the state by Paradise Promotions of Austin, Texas.
As a portrait photographer he has worked with First Lady Laura Bush and Tara Watson, Miss Texas 2000. His portraits of families, children and brides grace many homes both locally and regionally.
Joe is a self-taught photographic artist with a background in pencil art, oil and water-color painting, as well as a BBA from Stephen F. Austin State University and MBA from Texas A&M University. |
